Awakening the Spirit
Poems and Stories of Love, Hope, and Healing
Saturday, October 24, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
La Mesa First United Methodist Church
4690 Palm Ave., La Mesa
The morning is free and includes time to connect over light refreshments
A morning of poetry and stories, hosted by ISP San Diego and its advisory council.
Join the Ignatian Spirituality Project for a morning of poetry and stories exploring the spiritual journeys of people recovering from homelessness and addiction. Come listen, reflect, and discover what can awaken within us when we receive one another’s stories with open hearts.
The people you’ll hear from have walked a hard road and found their way through. Their poems and stories carry what they’ve learned about healing, and about what makes recovery last: connection, to ourselves, to one another, to something bigger. No one heals alone.
This morning is for anyone who wants to see what the journey has to teach. You’ll have a little room to reflect on your own road. You may recognize more of it than you expect.
ISP San Diego offers spiritual retreats and reflection circles, in English and Spanish, and this morning is a window into that community and what it has learned together.
Whether you’ve known ISP for years or this is the first you’re hearing of it, you’re welcome here. Come as you are.

“I didn’t know what hope was when I got here. But through sharing, caring, and the love I’ve received, I know what hope is now, and I can take it back with me.”
– Kevin Graves
ISP Ambassador of Hope, San Diego
The Ignatian Spirituality Project (ISP) invites people recovering from homelessness and addiction to encounter God’s love, hope and healing through spiritual companionship that transforms lives. We offer retreats and reflection circles, free of charge, for people rebuilding their lives from homelessness and addiction in more than 20 cities, including San Diego. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition, ISP tends to the spirit: the foundation that helps recovery last.
