No One Heals Alone: Six Movements on the Journey of Recovery

Sep 10, 2026

For more than a quarter of a century, in cities across the country, the Ignatian Spirituality Project has walked with thousands of people rebuilding their lives after homelessness and addiction. In that time, we’ve been invited into countless stories of struggle, change, healing, and hope: stories that have much to teach all of us.

Housing and treatment are a first step. But what makes recovery last is something deeper, and harder to see: a healing that begins with feeling loved, trusting that we’re not alone, and believing that a new life is possible.

What recovery teaches is something all of us need to learn: how to heal and begin again. This is a cornerstone not only of the recovery journey, but of the spiritual life.

You’re invited to hear from the people who have walked that journey. Their stories are the heart of “No One Heals Alone,” a special feature in six movements: Seeking Change, Encountering Hope, Sharing My Story, Deepening Relationships, Finding New Meaning, and Walking with Others.

The wisdom beneath these movements is old. Ignatian spirituality has shared it for five centuries. The Twelve Steps have carried it for nearly a century. The research now backs it.

So every movement sets its stories beside two short reflections, one on what the spiritual traditions say and one on what the science on recovery says, including work from researchers at Harvard, Stanford, Duke, and the University of Pennsylvania, among others. Along the way, you’ll meet 13 storytellers in eight cities, from Boston to San Diego.

Above all, we invite you to consider how these movements have shown up in your own life. You may recognize more of the road than you expect!
